Length of the manuscript
It is essential that you keep the manuscript size as specified in your contract agreement; the length of a manuscript directly impacts on production costs – keep as close to the agreement as possible, as a manuscript that is too long will increase costs, and one that is shorter than anticipated would not be able to meet the market demand for which it was intended, hence it will not be successful. Whether you are the sole author or a co-author, please keep to the specifics indicated in the contract agreement as much as possible. These should include:
· details on the number of words as text (note: most word processing programs have the word-count feature)
· number of pages as text
· number of words as references
· number of figures and tables
For your information, please remember that an illustration will usually take up the same amount of space as 250-300 words of text, references usually account for approximately 20 words, a standard A4 paper contains between 250-350 words, double-spaced. If your manuscript includes portions of previously published material, please be careful in estimating how this will affect the overall length of the manuscript.
